This $7M project, was a comprehensive renovation that provides a new police station and municipal offices for Petersburg Borough. The 17,500 sq.ft. project was a cost-effective reutilization of 1960s steel frame and foundation, repurposed to a state-of-the art building with high insulation values, and efficient new mechanical and electrical systems. Interior spaces were totally reconfigured to provide a simple and clear architectural plan. The building houses City offices and meeting space, as well as a contemporary police station with inmate handling capabilities, including cells, booking area and sallyport. A particularly challenging aspect of the project was the necessity to keep police operations, including jail functions, operating throughout the project, requiring a complex phasing strategy.

Project highlights included:

• Envelope upgrades, including new continuous rigid insulation and weather barriers over old exterior wall system.

• New metal siding, including color options which reflect the community’s Nordic heritage.

• Use of CMU wainscot in select areas to protect the metal siding at grade.

• Use of resin panels to provide a wood look while eliminating maintenances associated with exterior wood.

• This complicated project was bid 10% under budget.
