Fish Creek Estuary Area Planning

Thank you all for joining us Thursday, December 16th’s for the online Zoom Community Meeting. It was great speaking with you and having the planning team reveal our initial concepts of what could be for the area. Below are the materials discussed.

Fish Creek – Zoom Community Meeting – December 16, 2021

The Fish Creek Recreation Area on Douglas Island is a popular recreation area and contains valuable fish and wildlife habitat. Fish Creek is within and near the lands of the Áak’w Kwáan and the T’aakú Kwáan people. The City and Borough of Juneau, Southeast Alaska Watershed Coalition, and Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game and MRV Architects have teamed up to improve recreation opportunities and restore stream and natural habitat.

Recently a survey was conducted to help us learn how the community uses the area and to share our ideas for improvements. This survey asked a series of ranking and open-ended questions to gain an understanding of current creek values, uses and needs for the community. The survey ended Monday August 2nd, 2021 at 5pm and collected 385 responses. The results are have been tabulated and converted into summary. Please check this link for the total results.

August 2021 Walkthroughs

We invited the Fish Creek Community to participate further in this effort by joining us for two on-site walkthroughs where we discussed restoration plans being made for the area. 40 community members and environmental professional joined us for great stroll around the area.
