Thunder Mountain High School
Co-designed with Fanning Howey, this 166,400 square-foot facility is designed for a student population of 850, with the option to expand to 1,100 should the need arise. The school’s design was strongly influenced by the site. Gathering spaces have extensive southern exposure, the library has views of the Mendenhall Glacier and surrounding mountains, and the academic commons overlooks the Mendenhall River. An important aspect of this building's creation was the inclusion of the 1% For Art pieces in the desing process. This approach allowed for concurrent artistic responses between artists and architects that greatly enhanced the main commons.
