Haines Community Library

MRV Architects designed this new library for the Haines Borough. The 7,300 square-foot facility includes stack areas, a separated children’s area, meeting spaces and staff offices. The building features a grand hallway stretching from the entry through stack areas and terminating in a large meeting room with full-height glass windows. The central space includes custom wood trusses and indirect lighting, while the front facade is angled aff the main axis of the building to frame the Chilkat mountains in the distance. It was the first library to be declared "Best Small Library in America," in 2005, by the Library Journal and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
