Mt. Eccles Elementary School

Several previous additions and modifications to this 1950s school had left it with a confusing entrance far from the public spaces and office. The focus of the new addition is to remedy this with an entrance that opens directly to the public spaces of the Commons, Stage, and Gymnasium with easy supervision from the Office. Realizing that the sloping site -once seenas an impediment to recess- could be used as an advantage, the design team extended the playground up and over the Gym roof. The renovation of the existing portions of the school will focus on energy efficiency with a greatly increased thermal envelope.

As is often the case, MRV’s involvement in the Mt. Eccles project has been comprehensive. In addition to the usual architectural and project management duties, MRV assisted the City and School District during the Bond Election with the creation of promotional material, and during the Bid Process with administration support.
